Ask Jeeves for Kids This metasearch allows students to search by entering questions. All sites returned are considered safe. (filtered by Surf Watch) It also allows students' questions to be spell checked.
Encyclopedia Britannica's Internet Guide This search engine only returns sites that have been reviewed by its editors and are considered noteworthy. A paragraph description is included with every site returned.
Lycos for Kids This search engine is similar to Lycos but is arranged for kids to use.

Kidnews This site allows students to submit writings and read others from around the world.
KidsCom This site gives students story starters for creative writing.
KidPub Students can publish their stories here.
Story Hour Students can hear their favorite story read aloud to them or have the choice of reading the story on-line. This site is appropriate for Kindergarten. Example of  a stories listed: The Tortoise and the Hare and Mother Goose.
WebTime Stories with Webster This site has children's stories for primary grades. Students are encouraged to email the website after reading the selection and in return receive a pen. Then they are encouraged to draw a picture about the story and submit it to be included on the web page.
Caroline Arnold This children's book author provides suggestions for activities for students to do that correspond with books she has written.
Wacky Web Tales Students grades 4 and above are given parts of speech so they can fill in the appropriate word and after submitting, a wacky web tale returns. (somewhat like Mad Libs) The story can then be posted on the site for everyone to view.
The E-Mail KeyPal Connection Students are given a keypals from anywhere in the world and are encouraged to write each other with email.
Kid Lit's Reviews of Kids' Books Students may submit their reviews of children's or young adult books to this web site and read the comments of other kids'.
Fake Out A definition guessing game.
The Four Seasons Reading Club Students are given choices of books to read and then asked to submit certain information about the books by email. After reading a number of books, students receive a certificate.
Tales to Tell Students can explore the backgrounds of stories, join conversations about books in discussion rooms, write stories, play games, try new links, and vote in opinion polls.
SpellWeb Here students can enter words they are unsure about and receive the correct spelling.
The Write Site This site is a multimedia language arts curriculum that makes the process of telling a story fun. The Internet Math Hunt Here students are given questions and asked to use the Internet to answer questions about math and mathematicians.
